30 Weeks

Things are getting real around here.  10 weeks to go!  We've been staying fairly low-stress about the baby throughout the pregnancy, but we started our birthing class this last week...ignorance was bliss to say the least.  Turns out we need to start kicking it into gear with planning for the coming of this little guy.


The most frequently asked question these days is, "Have you picked a name yet?"  And if you've been wondering the same thing, our official answer is: no, but we're working on it.  We have a short list of names, but decided that we're going to keep our options open and not share the final choice until baby is here.  Since you already know it's a boy, we have to keep something a surprise!


How far along: 30 weeks even

Days until due date: 70

Baby: About the length of a hot house cucumber (15-16" long and 2.5-3.5 lbs).  Doctor says both baby and I are moving right along perfectly.

Total weight gain: 13 lbs

Total belly growth: 8".  I woke up one day this last week and swear that I was bigger than when I went to bed the night before.  Even my scrubs at work can't hide the growing bump anymore.

What I miss: Being able to sleep on my stomach or flat on my back.  Randomly, my left ear starts to hurt when I lay on that side for too long at night.  Plus, it'd be much easier to get a back massage from Scott if I could lay on my stomach :-)

Cravings:  I'm so thirsty!

Symptoms:  Oh, the back aches.  And the hip aches.  I feel like an old lady, especially when Scott has to help me get off the couch when I get stuck.

What Scott’s been up to:  This has been a busy few weeks for Scott as he/we made an offer on a house, then backed out of the house after a less-than-encouraging inspection, then found another house, made another offer, and are moving forward with the closing.  I think we should call this new house our Easter Miracle House.  Long story long, Scott has been stalking a foreclosure house that was not yet on the market.  It was a beautiful, big house in a nice neighborhood that was more wonderful than anything else we had been looking at and way under-priced for the area.  It finally came on the market on a Monday night.  We toured the house Tuesday morning and made an offer Tuesday afternoon.  By Wednesday, there were multiple offers on the house and the bank wanted everyone to submit their highest and best offer (so annoying!).  We upped our offer and waited impatiently to hear something back, thinking they would make a decision by Friday.  When we didn't hear anything by Friday evening, we were pretty disappointed and sure that we didn't get it.  We moped around all weekend, trying to decide what to do next.  Then on Easter Sunday evening, we got a call from our realtor saying that she had just heard that Freddie Mac had picked our offer for the win!  This was an Easter miracle because 1) we didn't expect anyone to be working at Freddie on the weekend, much less on Easter Sunday; 2) our offer was under market value for the house, so we thought it was a long shot that we'd get it; 3) the offer that was actually accepted was our original offer of $7,000 less than the "highest and best" offer we had made second, and the bank ended up throwing in other deals like closing costs and home warranty.  We still don't know how this all happened, so are attributing it to a total God-thing.  We had the house inspection yesterday, and are so excited that nothing came up that's not manageable.  Hopefully, we'll be moving in within the next month.  And we already bought a mattress for the guest bed, so we will have plenty of room for visitors (hint, hint)!
